Barnes & Noble Society Tea

Each year the Official Red Hat Society and all of the Red Hat Chapters celebrate the beginning of our Society in a wide variety of ways. This year on the official anniversary date of April 25, 2005 The Red Hat Rovers gave a Tea and invited all of the area Chapters to attend. We had a beautiful table set up at the southern Barnes & Noble bookstore. It was decorated with a purple tablecloth and a great poster by Suzy. We served warm cookies, hot coffee, and iced tea provided in part by B & N. A number of Sue Ellen Cooper's book "Laugh Lines: Stories of Inspiration and Hattitude" were sold as well as a few other Red Hat related goodies.

This was the first time I wore my now famous *Purple Hair* and I did attract quite a bit of attention as well as many humorous comments! Obviously, it was "the Real Me". During the day we met a number of old friends and made lots of new friends. Ladies came, sat awhile, had tea & cookies, chatted, took pictures, and left ... only to be replaced by others and the cycle would begin again. It was a wonderful day and everyone appeared to enjoy themselves just as much as I did!

Being back at Barnes & Noble with so many Queens and Red Hatters reminded me of the first Red Hat Tea I ever attended at this very same place just exactly one year before.

That was when I chose Suzy to be my Queen and asked if I might join The Red Hat Rovers. To my everlasting joy, she said yes and changed my life for the better. She got a crazy lady with purple hair and I got a Chapter full of Sisters and Friends ... the kind that last the rest of your life!

Rovers at the Old Greenbrier

It was a great day to go roving all the way to the Old Greenbrier Restaurant. Everyone was hungry and we were looking forward to a delicious lunch of bar-b-que in an old building full of great smells and a cheerful atmosphere. Fortunately we arrived early because in no time at all the whole place was full!

I had brought along a Special Guest as a surprise. My six year old Grandson, Matthew was here spending time with Nanny {my *very* favorite title} and wanted to go along.
"I already have a red hat," he said.

I am delighted to report that he *charmed* the Ladies and had a wonderful time.

It was Empress Arlene's birthday month and she looked splendid in her red dress and purple hat. We had our Kazoos so we Kazooed Happy Birthday and promptly received a generous and unexpected round of applause from everyone within earshot!

Yep, that's us, the Red Hat Rovers, spreading smiles and happiness wherever we go!

Red Hat Rovers' Fifth Anniversary Celebration

On Friday August 18, 2006 The Red Hat Rovers Chapter #637 Founded by Suzy Szymczak met at Emma's Tea Room for our Fifth Anniversary Celebration. Ten of the sixteen members were in attendance. It was a lovely day and everyone looked beautiful in purple and red.

Lunch was consumed with much laughter and story-telling and a very good time was had by everyone.
Beautiful Gift Bags were made for all members by the wonderfully creative Dottie and filled with: each member's name tag, membership card, candy, and a Kazoo on a lanyard. A framed copy of our very First Charter was passed around and admired by each of us as we remembered our Founding Queen Mother Suzy, the one who started it all!

Present were: Queen Eileen, Arlene, Mary, Marilyn, Free, Rhonda, Carole, Sylvia, Dottie, and Waynette. Please note, by how lovely she looks in her reverse colors, that it was Sylvia's Birthday. Of course we all had to immediately use our brand-new Kazoos in her honor!

We're Five Years Old!

On Friday, August 18, 2006, the Red Hat Rovers celebrated their fifth anniversary as a chapter by having lunch at Emma's Tea Room. Each member in attendance enjoyed a delicious lunch, the bites eaten between laughs and giggles as we shared jokes and tales of our varied adventures.

Each member received a Red Hat Rovers Tote Bag, which contained among other things, a mini-scepter and an official purple Red Hat kazoo on a red lanyard. This handy tote is a great place to keep all your Red Hat necessities for each meeting. Just grab it, pop your red hat on your head and go! Many thanks to Dottie for her hard work in making these bags and to Eileen for stuffing them.
